Reimagine Newham

Collaboration with Ricebox Studio

Role
Workshop design and facilitation

Reimagine Newham is a public augmented reality (AR) art exhibition featuring 12 works created by local artists, students, and residents exploring the borough of Newham. The project combined a creative technology education programme with a public exhibition, inviting participants to imagine alternative futures for their community.

Funded by Westfield East Bank Creative Future Fund supported by Westfield Stratford City and Foundation for Future London. AR Hackathon was delivered in collaboration with Ricebox Studio and University of East London.

Ricebox Studio was invited by DE/KONZEPT to run a three-day hackathon introducing participants to augmented reality, activism, and storytelling. During the programme, residents learned AR tools and developed their own interactive concepts, moving from ideation and design to prototyping and final delivery.

Each participant produced an AR poster, which was printed and installed across the borough as part of a public exhibition. Passers-by could scan QR codes on the posters to trigger AR experiences in their surroundings, transforming everyday locations into interactive artworks and encouraging audiences to explore the area in a new way. The resulting exhibition explored speculative futures, cyber identities, unconventional design proposals, and overdue social changes for Newham—presented through the voices of local creatives and emerging talent.
