As part of 16 Days Of Activism, Plan International and Feminist Internet have been building a chatbot that helps tackle online harassment. Maru was designed to support and empower people who are experiencing, witnessing or fighting online harassment by providing real advice and resources from experts and activists.
The chatbot is called Maru (which means ‘cloudspace’ in Sesotho) and it was co-created with young activists who are passionate about promoting internet freedoms and safety. The group was recruited to be as intersectional as possible and they are from Benin, Ghana, Cameroon, Nepal, South Africa and Germany.
You can chat with Maru here: maruchatbot.co
